Tor Megiddo: The Exile, Part 8

The Rider and the Beast

With little loot but plenty of knowledge to the Purebred's camp returned Warfather Dez and damaged Gh-0u1. And though fixed could be the servitor with the little the Purebred had, long time would the repairs take. Thus in war council sat the tribe, their next attack on the Anomaly Protocol to plan.

Around the fire sat the Purebred to Warfather Dez listening so that of their enemy learn they might. Of Gamma-Delta-Mu-10 and his arcane device Dez spoke and of how flames his para-skitarii shrugged off at first.

And from the book of Da-Ar-Vin read the Keeper of the Flesh, for in it the specs of the Anomaly Protocol were laid. With boosters to their resilience were the para-skitarii to be equiped for salvage missions in the wild, the tribe she told. And powerful weapons entrusted to their leader any looter to repel.

And further, she read, instructed they were the salvage site to fortify when threats appeared. And on this knowledge pondered Great Father Arun, and a plan put forward for his men to approve. For that is the way of the Purebred, that when much is at stake not one man decides, but the tribe all. And as thus talking were the Purebred, onto their camp rode Eshelon.

Of the Sand Beast he had hunted ever since from the Purebred parting at the Rustmen Moot he told them. To a hiding near their camp tracked he had it and for shelter he asked before on the last leg of his hunt to embark.

And upon hearing of the Rider's hunt, another of Da-Ar-Vin's teaching recalled Mahela. That the Sand Beasts had the bane been of the Skull-cog's servants when ravage the word did the Great Hunger. To corner the beast she instructed Arun, for its savagery against the Anomaly Protocol to use.

And thus, with sturdy nets and sharpened poles the Purebred armed themselves and Eshelon asked to lead them. And in exchange of the trophy kill he was to loose, first plundering rights they offered him when against the Pit of Sarkon they'd move.

And gladly did the rider accept, for always fair had the Purebred paid him and rich were the pickings of their raids. And to the beast's hiding the way he showed and entrusted with savage Snapper, out the Beast he flushed.

And roaring it came, on many legs skittering. But well laid was the trap and in a narrow ravine it rushed where all escapes had by the Purebred been blocked.

And on it fell the nets and stabbed the poles. Of slavering canid two heads it had and many more which human looked but keenly wailed in most unhuman fashion. And from its insides sharp appendages sprouted and then again into its insides disappeared, on other parts of its body to soon reappear.

And upon it trapped looked the Purebred and knew a great and terrible weapon conquered had they.
