Down wiv da Revulushun! - Part 4

More Skrapjunkyz, Painted

These lads have slugged their way through my painting desk for four whole months... the lack of any gaming prospect really put me off doing much hobby at all! Anyway, they're now finished and I can call the Skrapjunkyz done, at least as a Kill Team. Although I might add some units and characters to bump them up to a Patrol Detachment for 40k games. Time will tell!

Grizgutz Steelbootz: Kommando, Scout: Light-fingered.
Grizgutz is a master pilferer and he snatches, steals and loots even more compulsively then the rest of the Skrapjunkyz. This makes him the ideal team spotter, as he ranges ahead to secure himself plenty of extra gear.

Snarkrat Ripblade & Nakboz 'Eadkrakka: Kommandos
Snarkrat and Nakboz are the Skrapjunkyz' sappers. They go about looting wire, low yeld charges, flares, spikey bitz and whatever else can be used to set up a good booby trap. Their favourite distraction, when not on a mission, is to rig the Skrapjunkyz' junk piles and watch the grots getting injured on them.

Urlak Steelfang, Ugul Drakka & Nargrunt Snotkicka: Boys and Boy Gunner
This trio is at the core of the Skrapjunkyz' 'muzik making', the drone of Urlak's and Ugul's speshul dakkas rhythmically punctuated by the explosions of Nargrunt's rokkits.

Gorgrok Flame Spitta: Burna Boy, Zealot: Too Dumb to Know Fear
Gorgrok is the Skrapjunkyz' salvage expert, unherringly accurate when cutting through large metal plates with his burna. If that wasn't enough, nothing could dissuade him from attacking any enemy that comes into sight. Not that Urzhog or the other boyz would stop him anyway!

Down wiv da Revulushun! - Part 3

More Skrapjunkyz, WIP

I have converted the remaining 7 orks from Shadow War: Armageddon, which brings the Skrapjunkyz to 14 members, a solid Kill Team roster with plenty of choices.

I've added a Kommando Scout specialist using the Burna Boy head munching on a cigar. I cliped off the circlet where the welding mask should be attached and then covered the damaged area with a greenstuff cap. The pointing arm is made with the only outstreched arm from the boyz kit, with a hand from the old multipart Night Goblins. The binocular in his left hand comes from the Space Marine Scout Snipers with an extra sight attached to it.

The gun on the back is from the old Space Marine Bike Squadron box, the cutta from the Boyz kit and the pouches from various Imperial kits. And if you think that the model reminds of Sergeant Apone from Aliens, you won't be wrong. Although, I have to be honest, I hadn't planed that. I just realised it once the sculpting was done.

I've also made two more Kommandos, again done using heads from the Burna Boyz. I gave both of them axes and bayonets on their sluggas, all from the Boyz kit. The axe on the left model comes from the outstretched arm on the Scout, while the slugga on the right model has been slightly tilted, as if hold level while advancing.

Their backpacks are done again with Imperial pouches, the rolled blankets from the Space Marine Scout Snipers and spades and canisters from Imperial Guard kits.

These two boyz are the closest rendition of the art that inspired the whole team. Their kustom shootas have barrels from the Sentinel Autocannon and the Land Raider Crusader Hurricane Bolter. I had to file them until they were they same width as the shoota body and then covered the joint with greenstuff, sculpted as wrapping. Each shoota also has an additional magazine: on the right, from on old plastic boltgun. On the left, it's part of the ammo belt from the Heavy Shoota, while the original sickle magazine was glued on the side of the weapon.

The shoulder plates are from the Boyz kit and the backpacks are greenstuff wrapped around metal wire and cut-off bits. Unlike the ork in the art, they wear helmets, and that's because I wanted to differentiate the Boyz from the Kommandos, none of which wears a helmet.

And finally, I've made a Boy with Rokkit Launcha and a Burna Boyz. They are both straight out of the box, except that the body of the Burna Boy comes from the Boyz kit. From the front, their bases are hidden by their weapons, so they are the only models that have not received random bits to represent scrap strewn on the battlefield.

Down wiv da Revulushun! - Part 2

The Skrapjunkyz

The Skrapjunkyz are Big Mek Trakgit's personal enforcers and requisitioners. Among the first mobs to crash on Duskhurn and at the forefront of the battles that saw the planet conquered and renamed Badlanding, they have ammassed a considerable amount of shiny stuff. This is probably unsurprising, given that Trakgit and his lads are Deathskulls. Yet, even for such a thieving kultur, the Skrapjunkyz are scrap hunters without compare, compulsively hoarding and stealing anything they see, including the bolts used to secure it. Over time, the Skrapjunkyz have developed a taste for extra-loud dakkas and have amped-up all their shootas and sluggas, reveling in making as much noise as possible. Given this lack of subtlety, they regularly end up fighting for what they want to steal. But as they say, "wot's betta den shiny skrap aft'a good skrap?".

Kill Team Background, Da Lads: Skraphuntaz
Kill Team Mission, Da Plan: Salvage, 'Andz off
Kill Team Quirk, Da Know-wots: Loud and Tuneless

Urzhog Ghazbhag: Boss Nob (Boy Datasheet), Leader: Beady-eyed
No small detail escapes Urzhog's low kunning, hence why Trakgit put him in charge of the Skrapjunkyz. He knows just where to place his shots for maximum effect. Failing that, getting close and fixing thing with the burna bit of his kombi-shoota would do. If the git is still up, there's always the choppa!

Slazbag Loudgob: Cybork Nob, Veteran: Big and Brawny
Slazbag looms over his mates like a monster, his constant bellowing accompanied by the droning of his engine. When the Skrapjunkyz are out on a mission, he skids ahead, eager to get into the fight.

Farksnot da Shiv: Kommando, Combat: Violent Loon
Even by greenskin standards, Farksnot is full of aggression and he doesn't know the meaning of the word overkill. Like the other Kommandos of the Skrapjunkyz, he is rather peculiar in his choice of what to steal. If it doesn't have a blade, it's not worth the effort.

Nargrunt Stompkrumpa: Kommando, Demolition: Stubborn
With single-minded determination, Nargrunt is set on accomplishing every task in his own way.  This normally involves a disproportionate amount of explosives. Luckily for him, there's plenty of chemicals to be stolen on Badlanding.

Shrokbog Grug,
Boy Gunner
Shrokbog has taken the Skrapjunkyz' passion for loud dakkas to a completely unprecedented level, his big shoota able to silence even Slazbag's cacophony of shouts and engine droning. It is a good thing that the Nob is always already too far to realise that he has been outlouded.

Skarzot Trakeye: Boy
Skarzot claims he can hit a running snotling from 100 steps. How much 100 steps is, he is not quite sure. But as long as he could kneel and brace properly, he never missed a running snotling.

Snitchit: Gretchin
Snitchit is the Skrapjunkyz' trusted inside grot, descreetely keeping an eye on the other gretchins working for Trakgit. In return for his services, the orks turn a blind eye on Snitchit propensity to nick stuff from the scrapyard.

Down wiv da Revulushun! - Part 1

Forces of Orkpreshun

When Saul started to work on his Red Gobbo's Grot Revulushun, we started talking about another Xenos28 campaign, centred around the fights between grots and orks on the world of Badlanding in the Malfactus Rift.
I had the Boyz from Shadow War: Armageddon still on their sprues, but couldn't come up with a theme to convert them. Until I read Psychic Awakening: Saga of the Beast and saw this drawing.

That was all I needed. A gang of scavengers, lugging their loot in overloaded backpacks and sporting kustom shootas fitted the settings and ideas for the campaign brilliantly. Since grots are better at nicking stuff, they should be reminded of who's the boss! And Deathskulls will definetely be at home on a Mek World.

The Boss has a kombi-skorcha based on the big shoota, with a barrel from a regular shoota. The skorcha component is made with a piece of plastic rod and the barrell of a meltagun, plus a bit of wire going to the backpack. The backpack and the head must be from the old Gorkamorka range, but I can't be sure. I don't even know how they ended up in the bits box. The rest of the model is from the Boyz sprue with pouches and grenades from the Sapce Marines.

The Combat Specialist Kommando has the left arm from the old Orruk Boys with a choppa from the Boyz sprue, a really old Space Marine dagger between his teeth and Imperial swords on his back. The bandana is sculpted with Green Stuff.

The Demolition Specialist Kommando is pretty much out of the box, except for the Imperial grenades and the right arm, where I have replaced the axe with the spare land mine. The hat is again greenstuffed.

The Boy Gunner got the barrel I had removed from the Boss' big shoota glued on a regular shoota. I then added the tripod from the Space Marine Scouts' heavy bolter and an additional magazine from the Boyz sprue.

Since orks cannot count past 5, there are 13 bodies but only 11 legs on the Boyz sprue intended to assembe 10 models. Not being one to waste and in the spirit of a propa mek, I paid tribute to the Gorkamorka range and made a Cybork Nob on wheel. The wheel is from the Space Marine Bike, the other bits, I have no idea!

Not to waste the other torso, I've repositioned and resculpted the riding legs from the Orruk Boys, so that now I have a kneeling Boy. The backpack is green stuff with pouches from the Space Marines on top of it. The loot inside is made of pieces of wire and the axe handle I removed from the Demolition Kommando.

Finally, I made a gretchin, because where there are revolutionaries there will also be sneaky collaborators. The body is from the old Night Goblins, the head from the old Goblins, the arms with blunderbuss from the old Empire Militia. The gun power pack was removed from a Catachan lasrifle, the sight is from the Space Marines and the gear on his back from the Cadians.

Their characters and stories are still brewing, but they'll be ready by the time they are painted.
