Blood on the Barrens
And a dirge in the tongue of the Skull-Cog sounded, as through the smoke of their camp filed the Anomaly Protocol. For their journey to Perishton had been in vain and their Tor was still dying. But too taken was Mahela in the celebration of the Purebred to hear the code hidden in the dirge. And to laid in ambush went the Anomaly Protocol, out in the Barrens on the path to Ferrugo Pass, where the broken Tors lie.Hot was the sun on the Barrens and hazy the air as the Purebred travelled forward, and Eshelon and Snapper opened the way over the burning sands.
From behind cover, Daktov and Tybar emerged, barring the Purebred's way.
Hidden, though, was the real threat. For Gudget and Decima praised to the Skull-Cog and prepared their weapons.
But out in the Barrens the prometheum gushes bountiful from the Mother. And to collect it, the Disciples of the Black had come. Quickly they moved to reach one of the sacred pits.
In a ruin, two of the Disciples dug down and the Purebred were taken in the crossfire. Snapper roared, his scales fuming, but Eshelon fell.
Loud growled the Dusthound and into the ruins leapt as the Disciples surrounded the tar pit.
Stimms Mahela injected into her ageing flesh and onto Gudget she charged.
And though Daktov halted the charge of the Disciples, Lady Meth came forward to engage Tybar.
Great Father Arun, trusted Yash at his side, charged into the ruins. And Yash wistled Snapper away, to find a path for the Purebred to escape the deadly trap.
But more Disciples were waiting and vicious bullets followed fast the darting Dusthound.
And as Lady Meth and Mahela bested their opponents, the Anomaly Protocol were broken.
And though Yash and Arun cleared the ruins, the Disciples of the Black stood victorious. Theirs were the tar pits and barred was the way to the Purebred.
