Animosity III, Da Warpath - Part 5

The Settlements of the Lux Umbra

Besides the larger skyports and mining outposts, the Lux Umbra is dotted with smaller settlements. Invariably, such settlements are nothing more than a motley collection of rickety wooden platforms, whether precariously standing in some empty space or propped against the tunnel walls.

Weapon traders, butcheries, drinking holes and taverns can all be found, along with the many other establishments serving the dregs and scums making a living in the Lux Umbra.

Only in the larger caves and on the ledges overlooking the emptyness beyond Realm's Edge, one can find what passes as buildings. Though no less rickety than the platforms erected in the more confined spaces, these structures are prized as staging posts and strongholds by the more organised gangs of smugglers and mercenary warbands, much like the nobles of the Lux Flumen regard their elegant spires.

And with these three pieces, my Lux Umbra board is ready to play on! They are all built with cocktail skewers and coffee stirrers, decorated with bits selected to give an idea of their purpose.

The supports of the two platforms, glued on square bases, are distanced so that the tunnel walls will fit tightly between them, allowing me to create a range of different locations. The bases are painted exactly like those of the walls, but I forgot to glue slate chips on them before priming. So, after painting I've smeared some Astrogranite Debris on them and drybrushed it with Celestra Grey. Let's say that the residents of the Lux Umbra have cleared the biggest debris after building.

The curtain on the watchtower entrance is some old cloth pinned in place with drops of superglue and then drenched in PVA.
I could stop building here, but I have plans for few more pieces to represent unclaimed caves.
